YES! My team won for Literature Festival!!! YAY ACS BARKER! And we only had two days to rehearse! WEEEE!
Y'see, we entered for the poetry slam part of the festival. And won! Wow. Was it nerve wrecking, after we finished reading our poem (We were first up, cos of ACS.) all we could do was wait for all the other teams to finish and seeing their scores was... well... really nervous for us. So anyway- it comprised of three rounds, where we won the third round. cos (i think) They don't tabulate scores. So here it is! The Trophy!

(K i got the better picture, but here's what the plate says anyway):

Mid Year National Youth Poetry Slam League Competition
The national Youth Literature Festival 2008
First Position
Presented by Word Forward Limited

My group: Me (randall), Dennis, Reuben, Shafi and Justin. + Teacher, Ms. Sheila.

Now, you know what pissed us off?
Yeah so we won first position, so you'd think that it would be like, and in first place we have..... ACS BARKER ROAD! Then everyone cheers and all the other barker people go like, crazy. BUT the STUPID organisers made the announcing guy tell us to all go up and like, get our trophies at one shot. Because, Because right- well, he said that we won by decimal points and stuff and blah blah, organisers thought it would be better if we all just got the trophies together. blah blah. But it looked like we drew! Like, SUPER AKWARD Standing up there with two other groups.... But we got first! it says there on the cup, and a judge smsed my teacher and told her that we were the outright winners!
so it's like:
1st position: ACS BARKER ROAD!
2nd position: MGS.
3rd position: Hwa Yi

Though it wasn't like.. officially said. At least we know we won. Yay! Anyway, the rest of the post will be the three poems used. Knock yourself out. Have a Mochi nice day!

Random thought of the day: Gone with the wind.

Peace- Literacy~~~~

1st round: A poem which has the theme: "Singapore's voices", or "The Earth speaks", (Earth's voices)

There is a field,
Where dreams become reality.
But it has been sealed away.
Oh, what a tragedy …

This is a tale of four men.
And their adventure to reveal this mystery
Ventured through many lands, and even got a tan,
Kicked dodo birds out of history! (Literally!)
Crossed deserts and mountains,
And even saw unicorns drinking booze from magical fountains!
(Fantasy! Fantasy! Fantasy!)

They were caught for felony a few times,
But that created more enzymes! (Protease, Maltase, Lipase!)
Then they were eaten by a killer whale,
But when they went inside it was a – Robinson’s Sale!
Then they fought zapping transformers,
Which they beat with lawn mowers!

At long last, they reached the gate of fate,
Which brought them to the field.
Ms. Universe was waving in her corner,
We had to show some appeal.

This was our field!
It was green!
But now, it’s just a dream!

2nd round: a poem by a local writer/poet

During Hari Raya she knocks on my conscience,
I knock on her door and I give her cakes.

She says she likes them and gives me
Sweets with gelatine inside. I throw them away.
Poor woman, dosen’t know how to make cakes.
Her children eat Maggi after school everyday.

That’s why the elder one is in Normal stream
And the younger one can’t spell her name.

If I was her age I wouldn’t be wearing shorts at home.
No shame, she dosen’t know how to hide her womanhood.

When the children are naughty and I beat them
I close the door: I hear she’s a gossip.

But she beats her children harder than I do
What to do her children are like that.
I once heard her scream she wanted to kill herself.
These people never value their own lives.

Other times I see her I smile and she smiles back
And her children smile and call me auntie.

But in our hands we hold with fists clenched tight
The keys to our homes, each night we slam the bolt shut.

Neighbours,

3rd round: An original piece.
(Batman Theme is hummed in background)
I wish I had the power of invisibility I could go wherever I wan to places where no one will see me or steal a pair of shoes

I would go to the girl’s locker room or steal from the bank

I’d go to the land of magical shrooms and make people stare at nothing but blank

I’d want another power a little teleportation god knows it’s the best form of transportation

From the merlion to the Eiffel Tower we need a getaway when were seen when that happens we go vrrooom
